like, ME! lol, sorry guys I have been moving all OVER the place and have been completely neglecting my blog :( HOWEVER, I make no promises, I don't know how ofter I will be able to post in the next little while because I am studying to become a Doctor of Philosophy in Holistic Health, and so will not have a lot of time for chatting. I am very very excited about this and hope that I can eventually start giving some awesome tutorials on herbal medicine making along with yummy recipes (I've gone RAW!) and so I thank you for your patience!

SO, I just had to share this little rant with you because I seem to be attracting really unprofessional businesses on Etsy lately. BOO. Most recently I bought a really neat shirt with a quote I loved on it, and 3 weeks later have YET to receive the darned thing. Why? Because they apparently don't ever LEAVE to drop packages off at the post office..unless their lives depended on it...(and even then I'm not so sure...) SO, I decided to get my money back and make my OWN version because the more I looked at the shirt the more it bugged me. I could do it BETTER :)

Homemade Citrus Powdered Deoderant Recipe

I was looking for some powdered deoderant on Etsy when I realized, DUH I can make my own and so I did:)

Here is the recipe I made up and it turned out wonderfully! And for those who think oh that white powder will just get all over your clothes, think again. You only use a few pinches and you rub it in really well and its no problem! This stuff is notorious for being an ALL day relief for stinky armpits, even after a day at the gym so what are ya waiting for get in the kitchen, grab a blender and get to it!

Basic Body Powder

1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup cornstarch

The ingredients below are purely optional but if you want it to smell delicious AND do some heavy duty germ warfare then don't forget to add them!
4 drops peppermint oil
1 tsp fresh lemon zest
4 drops tea tree oil

Throw it all in a blender, seal it tight with a lid and blend for a few seconds to get it all mixed well.
Wait till the dust settles a bit and scrape into a dry lidded container. when it is time to use simply take a pinch or two and rub it into your skin well and GO!

Adventures In Raw Food....Raw Cocoa Love Truffles

What can I say? These are so good they probably wont last the day! Soft, smooth, and deliciously sweet and guilt free! try it today!

Maca is a great Libido booster, Almonds and cashews have been associated with benefits of reducing risk of coronary heart disease.
Here is an excerpt from this website on the benefits of raw cacao:

"*It acts as a stimulant, so that the energy level in your body will receive a boost and you will feel better about yourself.
* It can also help to reduce chronic fatigue and general weakness caused by stress.
*Raw chocolate and raw cacao can help strengthen your cardiovascular system.
*This special superfood helps to regulate your sleep.
* Most importantly, pure chocolate directly stimulates various neurotransmitters in your brain (such as serotonin) to help reduce depression and to give a sense of euphoria or a sense of well being. Hence, your mood will be uplifted and you will feel better about yourself.

Raw Cocoa Love Truffles
Makes one dozen

Ingredients:
* 1/2 c. raw almonds
* 1/2 c. raw cashews
* 1/4 c. cacao powder
* 1/8 c. maca powder
* 1/4 c. + 2 TB raw honey or equivalent agave nectar
* 1/3 c. hemp seeds
* 2 TB cold-pressed virgin coconut oil
* 1 tsp vanilla extract (can use fresh scraped vanilla bean if desired)
* pinch of pink Himalayan salt
* 1/8 c. extra cocoa powder for rolling

Instructions:
Throw nuts and hemp into food processor and process until finely ground. Add the cacao powder, maca & salt and process again. Pour in the sweetener, coconut oil and vanilla and process until all is combined and sticking together. This should have the consistency of fudge batter. Pour 1/8 cup of cocoa powder into a bowl. Powder your hands with cocoa powder and roll mixture into about 1 inch balls in the palm of your hand. being careful not to press too hard. You may also use other powders of choice to roll with, including maca powder, goji powder, green super food powder, cocoa nibs, or whatever your heart desires! Refrigerate or freeze for storage (and maximum savoring time!)

I and my husband have been brewing this wonderful tea for about 6 months and in that time have grown A LOT of extra scoby babies. MOnday Munchies (a little late :) Portobella Burgers

THIS sandwich/burger is to DIE for!!!!
I am not a huge fan of cooked mushroom anything, but I thought I would try it out on myself and the family... needless to say, it was awesome! I had it on a whole wheat organic bun with tomato, mixed greens, a little ketchup, and slices of avacado) It was so good that my one year old actually took it out of her bread and ate it by itself and didnt even eat the bread...(and she LOVES bread!) I will be making this again tomorrow because I have lots of leftover ingredients, AND because I already want it again :) Thought I would share this keeper with the world! YUUUM!

½ cup ground flax seed
¼ cup hemp seeds
2 Tbsp fresh-chopped parsley
½ tsp fresh chopped thyme ( I use about a tsp of dried when I cant get fresh)
1 Tbsp olive oil
1½ Tbsp braggs aminos
2 cloves minced garlic garlic
½ tsp black pepper
2 Tbsp nutritional yeast
1 tsp stone ground mustard
¼ cup chopped walnut pieces
2 medium portobello mushrooms chopped into bite size pieces

In a food processor:
Add flax, hemp, parsley, thyme, oil, braggs, garlic, black pepper, and mustard and process until well blended. stop and add in the walnuts and mushrooms. (make sure that they are already well chopped before hand or you will end up chopping them into oblivion in the processor... the idea is to keep the nuts and mushrooms in the mix a little chunky for texture..) Pulse a few times in the processor and then mix with a spoon for good measure. Scrape mix into a bowl. Take about 3 tablespoons (more or less for size preference) and roll into a ball, and flatten on a heated skillet to make a patty. Cook for about 3 to 5 minutes on each side till lightly browned and heated all the way through. patties will never fully solidify on the inside but the creamy texture is DELICIOUS none the less! serve on a toasted whole wheat bun spread with mayo of your choice, tomatoes, mixed greens, and a few slices of avocado. I also add about a teaspoon of ketchup :)

My secrets..oh I have so many.... but the ones I feel most compelled to share, the ones that I feel SO guilty about... are the feelings I have had for my family and my life so far...

I always thought of myself as a "good girl". Growing up had always dreamed about the 10 children I would have. I always thought about how perfect it would be, how I would have this big wedding with all my family around me and and how I would be such an awesome loving mom. I was so naive...

I got pregnant when I was 20. The hardest thing was telling my best friend, my mom. She was crushed. I wasn't married. I was so embarrassed. I didn't get married to my husband (the father) until I was 6 months pregnant. It was a shotgun wedding with us in pairs of jeans at a little place aptly called The Hitching Post. Classy right? We didn't even tell my family until the next day. My mom was crushed again, I hadn't invited her. My husband (who is in fact 2 years younger than me) decided to go and join the army 3 months before I was due. I missed him so badly. When my daughter finally came, I was so happy, and yet so sad. The stress of having an emergency c section and my husband gone for the whole thing (she was 5 months old before we got to see him again) made nursing her extremely painful. I tried for a little while, and gave up. I loved her dearly, but I felt so disconnected from her. I felt like I didn't get to bond with her properly when she was born, and then I didn't even get to share oxytocin with her through nursing her.

She started to grow, and soon I had a son. He was so perfect, and I got to nurse him for a year, just like I had always wanted to to with my daughter. I started to feel even MORE separate from her. I felt strangely jealous and guilty and distant from her. I felt even MORE guilty, as she loved to snuggle, loved to tell me how much she loved me, and it hurt to not have as strong feelings for her as she had for me.. I felt so INADEQUATE. This was not who I was supposed to be. I was supposed to be super mom, not some guilty loveless shell. Why couldn't I just LOVE HER??

She and her brother grew some more, and then my beautiful third daughter came. She was so happy, always smiling, my little sunshine. I felt so guilty again, I felt like I loved her more than the first two. I kept asking myself WHY?? Why can't I just LOVE my kids all at the SAME TIME? They are beautiful special sweet spirits that came to me, wanted to be in MY family, and I felt as if i had let them down. How could I POSSIBLY bring another 7 kids into this world If i can't get a handle on my feelings for the three I already have?? I vowed then that I wouldn't have any more kids. The stress was just "too much" for a mother of a newborn with two other small children. I didn't get much sleep. I hallucinated at night A LOT from lack of sleep. (Not that I ever SAID anything to anyone about it...)

But life moved on, as it surely does.
One time, I tried to talk about it. My mother scolded me when I mentioned that I didn't feel like I loved my first daughter as much as the others. She told me all the things I WASN'T doing that she had done in her own perfect way to raise ME. I never talked about it ever again. It just made me feel that much more inadequate and useless. I KNEW it wasn't right. I just didn't know how to fix it. Oh how I wanted to fix it!

(In retro spect, I probably had SERIOUS post-partum depression and didn't even know it.)

Fast forward to the present. I want another baby. I see everyone around me having babies and OH how i miss it! My mother gets so exited when my step sisters, my brothers wife, and anyone else is expecting. She has never been overly THRILLED when I get pregnant. Its always a "health" issue, about how I should wait till this or that. How I should "take care of the kids that I already have". I know she only wants the best for me, but what about MY dreams? what about the 12 year old little girl inside this 27 year old body who had so many ambitious dreams about how her life would turn out? I'm afraid. I am SO afraid of getting pregnant and completely falling apart emotionally. I am so afraid of telling my mother when I DO get pregnant. (Don't get me wrong, she ADORES my kids. She is an awesome grandmother. She is STILL my bestest best friend and I love her dearly. )
But what happens when things just don't work out the way you expected them to, when life takes you hurtling in the opposite direction than you wanted to head? What happens when some of your dreams wither with age and misuse?

This is my secret, my ULTIMATE secret....
I would like people to think that I have everything under control, that I AM the perfect mom, that I have everything figured out, that I am SO completely confident in my life and its current direction.....but you know what? I DON'T. I have absolutely NO idea what is going to happen next and it scares the CRAP out of me. But you know what else? Despite all of this, despite the emotional roller coaster, the disappointments, the guilt, there is one thing I know for sure. and that is that I am NOT perfect, and really, that's OKAY.
I will be OKAY.

Meet Mr Obsolete, my new laptop cover!

So I wanted to make a fun cover for my laptop, and I had seen an etch a sketch cover someone else had make for their brother on another blog, and totally fell in love. I promised myself that if I ever got a laptop that I would make myself one. As I was finally realizing that dream, I saw a face in the etch a sketch design and decided to "monsterize" it! check it out: I would like you to meet, Mr. Obsolete!

Isn't he lovely??!!
I will be putting some velcro under the flap where his tongue is to keep it secure and then I can pull on his tongue to open it! He is made of blizzard fleece, as the store did not have any gray felt....oh well, hes a softie!

WOW! It's been a long tme since I was able to get on my blog! being stuck out in thewoodswith firstdial up and then NOTHING wasso depressing! Now I have my own cute little laptop and high speed internet and I am SO ready to be back!!!!!!

I am SO SO SOOOOOO grateful for family! If it weren't for my mom and step dad I would not have been able to do this till next YEAR! So anyways, it feels great to be back, and I have some really fun things coming up that I can't wait to share with you like a few tutorials and an awesome edition to my shop that will hopefully revamp my sales :) Missed you guys terribly and hope you will forgive me for my long and hardly explained abscence. Energy YUM Bars

Energy YUM Bars

This is my super yummy answer to some popular seed and nut bars. Sweet and nutty and lots of flavor! Great as a quick breakfast, an afternoon snack, a post workout kick, and pretty much anytime you need a little something! I added raw Maca powder because of its stress reducing, stamina and (libido) busting, and fatigue fighting powers. Chia seed is great for its ability to energize, not to mention its rich in omega fatty acids AND a great source of fiber in general.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup raw cashews
1/8 cup raw sesame seeds
1/4 cup raw shelled sunflower seeds
1/4 cup chia seeds
1/8 cup raw shelled pistachios
8 dried figs
1 cup dates
1 cup sun dried raisins
2 tsp vanilla
2 T cinnamon
2 T raw maca powder (optional)
1 tsp dried kelp
1/4 cup raw agave (or other liquid sweetener)

Preparation:

First blend cashews, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, pistachios, cinnamon, and kelp for about 10 to 15 seconds, till cashews are about the size of a larg grain of rice. Pour into a medium bowl and set aside. Add remaining ingredients (except the agave) into processor and blend. If mixture turns into a ball before completely chopped, stop, break up ball into a few pieces, then recap and continue to blend. Once mixed thoroughly, pour in dry nut/seed mixture and blend, adding agave a little at a time through the top till mixture is completely mixed. Depending on the ingredients (I like to experiment) you may have to add or subtract a little of the agave. The more agave you add the stickier the bar will be..not a BAD thing, but still messy. The less the agave, the better. I really only add the agave to help in the mixing process, as the fruit is more than sweet enough to compensate by itself. Feel free to experiment and see what works best for you. It is possible to make this without the agave, but will probably work better to chop and blend the two mixes separately and then hand mix in a bowl. Once blended, take a piece of plastic wrap about a foot and a half long or so, and lay down onto a flat surface. Pat mixture into a ball and lay in middle of wrap. place another piece of plastic wrap over ball and pat down. Take a rolling pin and roll out to about a 1/2 an inch thickness, about 12 by 8 inch rectangle . Place in fridge for about an hour or until chilled. Take out and cut into about 14 bars. ( amount of bars depends on how thin you roll it) Place bars in snack bags for a grab and go snack or keep on original plastic wrap. Keep chilled to maximize shelf life, (but if you are like me you'll eat the whole batch in a few days!)

So, finally got my internet back, although I must say DIAL UP was NOT my idea, it was literally the ONLY choice available, and it is only 56K to boot..... but hey I am just grateful I have SOMETHING! I am on the downhill slide towards having my household organized, (although I probably have at least a few more days to a week to get it ALL done) but man oh man does it feel great to have all this stuff OVER WITH!!! I am also really excited that as a great little "cherry" on top of everything else I will be going to a thing called Brave Girls Camp in a few weeks!! So excited to have a little "me" time after all this working! Brave Girls Camp is a neat thing I found on another blog about 6 months ago, and had been stewing and brewing up a plan to go ever since. It is an art/life retreat for women, and I must say it is giving me some MAJOR "pre-Christmas" feeling jitters! (To learn a bit more about it, check out their website here: http://www.bravegirlsclub.com it will tell you all the awesome details, except for all the yummy surprises of course! :) Anyways, glad to be back, hope I can get a little back up to speed, and I hope to get out at least ONE Monday Munchie recipe before my trip!
Also got a new dress and curled my hair and took a few pictures to mark the moment I actually had time for ME :)

What is your craft?

My main craft is Photography Art. I melt into nature and every day life so to speak. I really love capturing things that make me feel good and want to share that with others. I dabble in other crafts too because I love different venues of creativity and I can't help myself. Making jewelry started out as an outlet to unwind my day but I have really enjoy taking vintage items and upcycling them to make something new instead of it being forgotten and thrown away. I also make candles and love to make baby blankets.

What does your workspace look like?

My workspace is under construction at the moment so I don't have a picture but with my photography I consider every area around me as my workspace. I am very picky about having a place for everything though so that is my project this summer to reinvent my workspace area. I have all my photography printed through a Professional Photo Lab.

I have ideas popping up in my mind all day long. I have to write them down so I can go back to it when I am ready to create it. All my photos are spontaneous. That's my best work. I can't think about it too much or it doesn't turn out.

How did you become an photographer?

I've always had the "Art" part of it ever since I can remember. But it wasn't until I was old enough to buy my own camera that I started producing Photography Art and getting older brought appreciation. Having my family opened my heart and eyes to this colorful and wonderful world and life that I want to capture. Sounds so deep and dramatic but it's the only way I can explain it:)

What skills (any skills, not just crafty ones) do you wish you knew more about?

I wish I had the skill to slow the day down and balance everything better. I also would love to learn to knit or crochet:)I want to make beautiful blankets and baby booties.

What is (or is there) a favorite snack/meal to eat while/before/after photo shoots?

I like to eat soybutter on a spoon and alot of times I make chocolate/fruit smoothies.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given (or have) for successful selling and marketing online?

There is too many to list but I guess the one that sticks out the most is to not sit idle for too long and don't give up. Whether its creating, organizing, brainstorming new ideas or networking online. Keep busy with what you love and good things will come. It doesn't happen overnight for most of us. It takes alot of hard work, time and patience.

What are your favorite things about selling on etsy/artfire/zibbet ect?

At this time I only sell on Etsy. I love the feel of Etsy. It is right up my alley. I have always loved handmade items and Wow! it's amazing what is created there. I prefer to buy there more than retail stores. It just feels good and the people I meet are so wonderful. I have learned so much and continue to each day.

What do you hate about selling on etsy/artfire/zibbet ect?

I guess I would have to say there is too much drama at times in the forums. I am not much for that and of course I dislike it when there is 0 in my conversation box LOL. I get excited to hear from anyone on Etsy:)

Too create, organize, list, and sell MORE!

Monday Munchies: Incredible Crepes

I could eat these ALL. DAY. LONG. I could eat these with jam, I could eat them with ham, I could even eat them on a tram in Siam! These are better than pancakes, these are better than waffles, I cannot find words to tell you how wonderful I think crepes are! (of course I love all the other breakfast foods as well) but these are so thin, a little egg-y, and sweet enough to eat all by themselves! What can I say, I must have a little French in me!

Incredible Crepes

3 Eggs
1 Teaspoon Honey or Maple Syrup
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
2 Tablespoons Melted Butter
2/3 Cup Milk
1/3 Cup Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
1/8 Teaspoon Salt

In Mixing Bowl, beat eggs, add honey or maple syrup, vanilla, butter, and milk. Beat until well mixed with whisk or electric beater. Add flour and salt, and beat until batter is the consistency of light cream. Allow batter to stand for at LEAST an hour or two in fridge. (OVER NIGHT IS BEST!) When ready to cook, heat a 6 inch pan or small skillet and oil it. Pour in about 1 1/2 Tablespoons of the batter (trust me no more that 2 Tablespoons at a time!!) tip the pan immediately and spread batter over entire surface till evenly coated. Batter will be EXTREMELY thin on the pan. THIS IS GOOD. cook crepe until it can shake loose from the bottom of the pan. Turn and brown lightly on reverse side. Makes about 14 to 16 crepes. can be kept for several days in the fridge and up to 4 weeks in the freezer.

If you want to go fancy whith these, take some softened cream cheese, whip in some honey, and a little vanilla and lemon juice, and stuff and roll! top with some fresh strawberries and voila! YUMMY dessert!

What does  your workspace look like?

Messy-organized. It has a logic of its own.

Explain your creative process.

I am influenced and inspired by anyone or anything that makes me say, "I want to be a part of that!" I've always been inspired by the amazing work I see from many, many artists and designers, past and present, across all mediums. I love work that introduces me to new forms and methods of creating, and I'm inspired by excellent craftsmanship (something I aspire to). Once I am inspired, it's just a matter of experimenting with materials -- trial and error, so to speak.

How did you become an artist?

I don't consider myself an "artist." I'm just someone who has always had crafty hobbies or side-projects.

What skills (any skills, not  just crafty ones) do you wish you knew more about?

I wish I had better promotional skills.

What is your favorite snack/meal to  eat while crafting?

I don't eat when crafting. It gets too messy and I don't want to soil the items I'm making to sell. Sometimes I chew gum, if that counts.

What tv show, cd, or movie do you like to  watch or listen to while crafting?

I don't own a tv. I do listen to podcasts and sometimes various cds.

What is the best piece of advice you  have been given (or have) for successful selling and marketing online?

Contribute to Etsy teams and participate in forums. It's great to network with other sellers -- to share ideas, get feedback, and the occasional sale.

What  are your favorite things about selling on etsy?

The whole process. I love making the items, photographing them, listing them, making a sale, interacting with customers and fellow crafters. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of WORK! But there's a lot of satisfaction that comes from it.

Goals for 2010:

Venture into new items to feature in my shop. Probably paper goods.

What is the item you  love the best in your shop?

Blog Features on their WAY!

Getting my shop features set up, I should have them ready to roll by next Tuesday! I have got some great shops lined up too!

ON A SIDE NOTE: We just decided to move out closer to our piece of land, so I will be a bit crazy in the next month as we will be moving at the beginning of June. Don't have a house built yet, but will be working on it as soon as we get out there... meanwhile my MIL is letting us live at her house where we can have 2 bedrooms! (YES!) instead of the one bedroom we are currently stuck in..(and that is with 3 small kids too). all in all, a bit of a hardship, having to share a kitchen, as well as walking up and down a HUGE hill in the winter cause the cars wont make it in the snow.....BUT we hope it will help us save more money so we can be in our own home soon! We will still have internet (I wouldn't go without it!), and will have to set up long distance so I can call my mommy, but it will be good.

Gotta get working on putting some new items up in my shop so ta ta for now!

(and what the heck is it doing sunny and bright outside and SNOWING?????)

Munchie Monday: Dandy Candy

This is a sweet treat without all the extra junk that most "candies" have. This is actually a HEALTHY candy :)

Dandy Candy

1 1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
1 Cup Better than Milk Powder (Dry Milk Powder Can Be Substituted)
1/2 to 3/4 Cup Honey
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 Cup Quick Oats
2 Tablespoons Cup Coconut
2 Tablespoons Wheat Germ
2 Tablespoons Sesame Seeds
1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder (Optional)

Stir ingredients together in a large bowl till thoroughly mixed. Take spoonful sized amounts in the palm of your hands and roll into balls. Place on cookie sheet and cover with plastic wrap. Place in freezer or fridge for 15-20 minutes. Take out and serve.

Enjoy!

Monday Munchies: Not Just Any Pimento Cheese Spread

This takes the same old pimento cheese spread to a whole new level, its not just for the kids anymore with all the little extras added in!

Not Just Any Pimento Spread

2 Tablespoons block cream cheese that has been softened
1/4 cup mayo
1/4 cup finely grated onion
1/8 tsp worcestershire sauce
1/8 tsp salt
dash of red pepper
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (white is super yummy but yellow is fine)
1 tablespoon chopped and toasted pecans
1/2 of a 2 oz jar diced pimento (undrained)
1/8 tsp smoked paprika
pumpernickle bread (those little mini pre-sliced bread loafs are perfect for little fingers!)
Any bread is fine, whatever you like best!

Beat cream cheese with a mixer until smooth, then add mayo, worcestershire sauce, onion, salt, and pepper. Stir in cheese, pecans, and pimiento. Cover and chill. spread on your bread and ENJOY!

Monday Munchies: Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake/omlette)

This recipe was first introduced to me by my mother when I was a little girl. It was around the same time had a Japanese exchange student living with us. It was one of the best memories of my childhood. The students mother HAND-STITCHED kimonos for me and my mom (which as a 26 year old I STILL have), and we were sent lots of fun Japanese candies and treats and rice crackers as well. This recipe, (along with a little Japanese song I learned when I was only 4 or 5) always reminds me of that fun time. I am NOT a big fan of cabbage by any means, but in this instance it is not only necessary but worth it! Okonomiyaki is basically the Japanese version of a pancake or a pizza, as you can find unlimited ways to prepare it via ingredients. Here is a link that tells a bit more about this savory treat!

Try this little piece of Japan from me to you!

Okonomiyaki
(Makes ONE serving, or 1-3 pancakes depending on how big you make them)

1/2 cup chopped bacon or ham
(I have always used ham, but of course bacon is yummy as well)
1/4 cup peas (fresh or frozen)
3/4 shredded cabbage
1 tsp baking powder
4 Tablespoons flour
1/6 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped green onion
3 tablespoons water
1 egg

Simply mix all ingredients together in a big bowl as you would pancake batter, scoop in 1/2 cup increments (or one big pancake) on a frying pan with a little butter or oil. Flip halfway through cooking to cook other side. Serve with ketchup (for the kids) or MY personal favorite, a little bit of MAYO. Trust me its SOOOOOOOOOOOO good! And remember, you can throw whatever you want into this, from shrimp to cheese so get crazy and see what wonderful things you can come up with!

Munchie Monday: SINLESS Mississippi Sin AKA: Dip To DIE for!!DROOOOOL**

This is one of my most "FAVORITEST" of all recipes EVER!!!! Eat it with corn chips, bread sticks a spoon and your fingers! This is a lick the bowl sort of meal.....in fact, this is a EAT the bowl sort of meal!!

Sinless Mississippi Sin
1 8 oz pkg neufchatel cheese (or cream cheese whatever you can find)
1 1/2 cups shredded white cheddar cheese (it MUST be white! it tastes the BEST!!)
2 cups fat free sour cream
1 4 oz can green chile peppers
1 teaspoon vegetarian worcestershire sauce
2 cloves crushed and minced garlic
2 bunches chopped green onions
1 6.5 oz jar of marinated artichoke hearts that have been drained and chopped
salt and pepper to taste
1 one pound round sourdough loaf of bread
1 1/2 cup chopped roma tomatoes

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
In a bowl, beat cream cheese untill soft and then stir in the white cheddar, sour cream, green chiles, worcestershire sauce, garlic, green onions, artichoke hearts, and salt and pepper.
Slice off top of bread and hollow out.
Scoop mixture into bread bowl and cover with bread top. Wrap bowl in tin foil and put on baking sheet. Bake for an hour or so until mixture is melted. When done, mix in tomatoes and serve hot.

I have been very impatient to make this before and simply melted everything in a pot on the stove top and poured into the bread bowl and just DUG in! You can also skip the bread bowl, and eat with chips, and if you have the time just pour mix into a glass deep oven pan and cook like that. It gives it a great crust that way, but like I said, do it however you like depending on how hungry you are! (honestly I have eaten it before it is cooked before, I was SO hungry I couldn't wait, and it still tastes great!!)

Munchie Monday: Agave Caramels MMMMMMMMMM!

These babies taste like any other sweet yummy caramels, but they don't come with as big of a nasty sugar rush and inevitable guilt associated with their delicious look-a-likes.

Agave Caramels

1 cup butter
2 cups agave
2 cups whipping cream
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
sea salt

line a 9 inch pan with plastic wrap. Melt butter over medium high heat. Add agave, cream, and brown sugar. Mix well. Cool till boiling. STIR CONTINUALLY TO PREVENT BURNING! Boil till temerature is at 250 to 255 degrees F (45 minutes or so). Remove from heat, mix in vanilla and pour into prepared pan. Sprinkle evenly with salt. Cool in fridge, cut and serve. You can store these in the fridge for up to one month. (as if they will LAST that long!!)

My FIRST tutorial! YAY! I had some requests for a tute on making my bow ties, so here it is! I will inevitably revise this many more times, but for now this is what I have,. I DO apologize ahead of time, I am jumping into uncharted territory here with this baby, so bear with me!

Until I can figure out how to make a pattern AND get it on the computer in a PDF file, (any help with that dept would be appreciated!) You have 2 options. Option one: go to the thrift store and but a cheapo 99 cent old bow tie and use as a template, OR, Use the measurements below to "eyeball it" and make your own pattern.

For option one all you have to do is fold old bow tie in half ( length wise) and trace about a half an inch out all the way around onto a piece of heavy paper or a piece of poster board. Honestly, this is the easiest way, AND the way I did it to begin with.

For option 2, use the measurements in the picture below to get an idea of the measurements to eyeball it and draw your own. (these measurements are how it should be BEFORE you cut, not as a finished tie) If you can do this option and make it work, YOU ROCK.

(The rounded part is around 4 inches in lenght, and the triangular end is around 2 inches in length. Of course this all depends on how BIG you want to make it, but the ratio should stay the same.)

Length depends on your individual neck size, but my measurements are pretty average. If you are unsure if it is too big or small, simply measure the neck of the person you are making it for, and use that as a guide. The Length for MY pattern is noted in the diagram below. However, you need to measure the neck in which you will be making the bow tie for to make sure it will fit. Everyone's neck is different! Just replace my middle measurement of 16 inches with the measurements you have taken and it should be the right size :

Once you have got your pattern down, go ahead and cut it out.

Once that is done, take your fabric of choice and fold in half. (a yard is MORE than enough)
Pin down and trace your pattern onto the fabric, with the middle of the bowtie on the folded end of the fabric. When unfolded you should have the whole tie shape.

Do this a total of two times. You will end up with two main fabric pieces. Do this one more time on a piece of either interfacing (which I HATE to work with) or a piece of white fabric (or another PLAIN color depending on the main fabric you are using). I use white fabric. I think it works JUST as well as interfacing, and doesn't have a horrible scratchy feeling , ick! The main point of this extra piece is to make the bow stiff enough to stay looking like a bow tie when you tie it up, if not it will end up being a saggy sad tie. If you use a seriously stiff main fabric to begin with, such as DENIM, you probably won't need to use this extra bit, but if not, you MUST have it for it to look proper.

You will end up with a total of 3 pieces when you are done cutting.
TWO focus fabrics, and ONE interfacing fabric.

Take and set your first main focus fabric piece and lay it BACK side down on the ground. Take the second Focus fabric piece and lay it FACE side down on top of first piece. This will leave you with both front sides together. Take interfacing piece and lay it on top of other two pieces.
(pic below has interfacing on bottom, but it really doesn't matter if it is on top or bottom, as long as the two main pieces face each other.)

Match up at edges and pin down to keep in place. Sew all the way around, at 1/4 mark (at edge of foot), leaving a 1 1/2 inch gap in the very middle of tie. ( although I use a serger, it is not necessary to have a great tie!)

Take the opening and look down into it, and find the spot where the two faces meet. stick an instrument down in there to help flip the bow right side out. Make sure that the interfacing fabric is on the INSIDE, or you will have to flip it back inside out and start over. (believe me, I KNOW ;D)

Once flipped right side out, iron out flat to get a sharp edge. Make sure to fold in the gap that you used to flip it in so that you can close it up when you sew the edge.

It helps if you roll the fabric between your fingers along the edge while you are ironing to help draw out the edge so you maintain the correct shape.

Once the bow is ironed, start sewing around the very edge of the entire outline of the bow. Get as close to the edge as you feel comfortable.

(The pic below shows my fingernail pressed against the general area I am talking about.)

Once you have done this, its time to iron out all the wrinkles and tie! here is the finished look:

This last part is not something you HAVE to do, you can simply sew down JUST the gap and let the edges be a bit puffy, which looks fine too. I just like the look of the edge when it is sewn down. I guess that the un-sewn edge is a bit more formal, and the sewn is a bit "edgier" (forgive the pun!). It is purely up to your preference! Make it YOURS.

I do thank everyone who has been commenting, I AM reading them all, even if I don't comment back! I have been inspired, and will be doing a tutorial on how to make a self tied bow tie, and maybe even a mini version for little boys to match their daddies, grandpa's, ect! Until then here is what I have been working on today:

Platypus ( to make your own go to : http://www.craftbits.com/project/plattie-the-platypus ) She was a little bit hard at first, I tried to make her before and failed....but I tried again with different fabric (this one is ALL fleece) and a little more patience and she turned out a lot better. I also printed the pattern out a little bigger that it was and that helped too. the smaller the pattern, the harder it is for me to do!

I added a bow after I took the ones above:

Then a bean filled snake made out of a scarf:

These guys likes to be around your neck like a scarf, and is pretty comfy with its chenille like skin!

Monday Munchies: Corn Bisque

This is really simple, and really yummy! Whip this on up in no time and serve with some soft french bread and a good book to enjoy while you savor this cheese-y potato-y corn-y soup!

Corn Bisque

1 16 oz pkg smoked sausage (chicken, turkey, ect is ok too)
1 chopped medium onion
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt
4 cups milk (any percent, although whole makes for a good thick soup)
1 can whole kernel corn, drained
2 cups cooked chopped potatoes (any color)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder (or 1 large clove, minced)

Extras: cooked chopped bacon, green onions, chopped cooked carrots, broccoli, ect!

Saute onions (and fresh garlic if you are using it) in butter. Add flour, salt, pepper (and garlic powder if using it). Cook 1 minute. Add milk and boil for 1 minute. Add corn and chopped sausage. Bring to a boil and reduce and simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in potatoes and cheddar and heat through. Top with a little cheese as a garnish.

Eat and enjoy!

Okay, this song really is a great workout song, and makes ya wanna bob your head, OR, do the ROBOT!! This video is pretty fun (and those girls bodies REALLY make me wanna get on the ball with my exercising! LOL) So, the video is a little awkward at first, BUT, keep watchin, these girls' coordination is amazing....its like doing that 'rub your belly and pat your head at the same time' routine, only MUCH MUCH BETTER!

What's Up Wednesday? Spring cleaning, your mind AND your house!

My mom pointed me to this website when I was feeling overwhelmed with cleaning my house. The Fly Lady teaches you how to do baby steps. One of the things that I always remember from her is that "this mess wasn't made in a day, we shouldn't expect ourselves to CLEAN it in a day". She teaches you to not have impossible expectations of yourself, so you can move forward with your cleaning, and with your life. She breaks it down to each day, gives you a new goal to accomplish, and builds on that the next day.

Monday Munchies: Garden Sloppy Joes

Love this one! Healthy, tasty- its just GOOOD!

Garden Fresh Sloppy Joes

1 chopped medium onion
1 chopped carrot
1/2 shredded zucchini
1/2 chopped green pepper
1 lb ground turkey (or chicken)
18 oz can tomato sauce
1 15oz can crushed whole tomatoes
1 small tub freshe mushrooms, sliced thinly
1/4 cup BBQ sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (or 1 fresh garlic clove minced if you are feeling up to it!)
pepper to taste
8 whole wheat buns

Saute onions, carrot, green pepper, zucchini and ground meat in a pan over medium high heat for 5 minutes.

Add tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, mushrooms, BBQ sauce, and seasonings (garlic included) and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Uncovering and cook for an additionally 3 minutes or until thick.

Serve on toasted or plain buns.

ENJOY!

LOOK I SEWED SOMETHING, ITS A MIRACLE! :D

So, I spent the last few hours trying to sew, (something I lack all but the basic skills for) and came out feeling pretty proud of myself! I used a pattern made by keyka lou on Etsy, and I must say for a slightly clueless fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants sewer (and I am talking about ME!) her tutorial was very informative! After spending an hour or two initially on this project (now that I know what I am doing) it should only take half an hour or so to make another one! I can't wait to try out the other two patterns I got!

Here it is! I bought the fabric from uberstitch on etsy as well, they have THE BEST fabrics, I hearted almost EVERY fabric the sell!

Whats up Wednesday? My special order arrived!!

YAY! I asked Mary Mary Handmade to make me a special bracelet with charms to represent my kids. (each of my kids had their own special animal designated them when they are born) My firstborn daughter is a griffon (it is ALSO her name) but since it is nearly impossible to get a stuffed animal griffon ANYWHERE, we use a lion as a substitute. My son is an elephant, and my last little girl is a sloth. (okay okay, sloths ARE cool, I SWEAR! they are fantastic swimmers, they give birth upside-down, and they are plain all around AMAZING creatures! plus-they are SO ugly they are CUTE!) ANYWAYS, she has SUPER cute stuff and she was more that happy to do a custom order for me! It took a while, but GREATNESS always does!

Monday Munchies: Roberta's Good Soup (my version)

Okay, so there is a book called "The Farm Vegetarian Cookbook" published in 1978 that my mom has had since I was little. She more recently found me my own personal copy from the thrift store, which has become one of my most treasured cookbooks. There is a recipe in it called Roberta's Good Soup. It is a VERY simple recipe, and the ingredients are even MORE simple. I have modified the spices a bit to my liking, but the general ingredients remain the same. It is really one of those kinds of soups where you can do just about ANYTHING to it, adding veggies or beans or whatever you feel like at the time. I like to call it my own "stone soup" . Don't judge this recipe by its "cover" so to speak, if my mom had not made this for me as a child I probably wouldn't have given it a second glance. Try it out, I am sure it will surprise you! If I had to compare the taste, I would have to say it has a kind of "chicken soupy" flavor.

Roberta's Good Soup (my version)

1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 tsp celery seed
1 cup TVP
2 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 cup Brewers Yeast
2 Tbsp margarine
1/2 bag egg noodles (2-3 cups dry noodles)
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 Tbsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder
about 1 gallon water

Saute onion in 3 tablespoons oil in large pot.
Add water (more or less depending on how much you want to make, as long as it is enough to cook the noodles)
Add tvp and boil for 5 minutes.
Add the rest of the ingredients to the pot and boil till noodles are done and TVP is soft.
Taste test it and add extra spices to your liking. I find I ALWAYS add more than the recipe, but start with the basics and work from there!
Also, this is the sort of soup that tastes better the longer it sets, so it makes a great soup for lunch the day after you cook it.
Serve with saltines, or warm bread!

Everyone should have a "special" box!

In my family, each of us has a special box (mine is a vintage beauty school box that my mom used to use when she was in beauty school) and my husband has an old instrument case that he uses. We put any thing special to us, such as pics, special jewelry, awards, ect. and it is an awesome way for kids to have and keep their own special things, as well as teaching responsibility!

Munchie Monday: THE BEST ASIAN DRESSING ON EARTH! (oh, and a great salad to go with it :D)

So, this is a SUPER TOP SECRET recipe that you must not tell ANYONE about (LOL) !

No, I don't care who ya tell or I wouldn't be posting this for you :D

So here it is, this stuff takes like 2 seconds to make and you spend the rest of the meal trying HARD not to drink it all STRAIGHT! This stuff is addictive, use with CAUTION..or with croutons, whichever you prefer :D

Asian Salad Dressing:

1/2 Cup mayo
5 Tablespoons rice vinegar
2 Tablespoons dry sweetener (sugar, xylotol, cane sugar..ect)
2 Tablespoons sesame oil
1 Tablespoon soy sauce (I use Braggs Liquid Aminos, as it is actually HEALTHY :D)
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

INSTRUCTIONS:
Put in mason jar, screw that lid on tight, and shake shake shake!

For the salad, I usually just throw my lettuce of choice in a big bowl, (I like spinach or baby greens best) and throw on top a can of mandarin oranges, a handful of cooked chicken, sliced green onions, toasted almonds, and if I have them, those fried noodle thingies! then DRENCH with dressing and EAT! ( it is SO hard for me to share!)

lol, I promise I will eventually get to taking pics of these recipes, but for now you will just have to TRUST ME :D

I took a bit of a break from cleaning (almost done!!) to go visit my mother in law's, where we will soon be building a house! YAY! and on the way and while I was there, I took a bunch of pictures of nature in general. here they are:

I have been a blogger since January 29th 2010, for exactly 28 days. I have posted 70 (this makes 71) blog posts, and been honored to have as of today, 77 followers! So that means each day I created approximately 2 and a half posts, and gained 2.75 followers per day. WOOH! I am so proud of myself (I didn't know I had it in me!)
NEEDLESS TO SAY....I am going to take the next week off from the internet world, and will not be posting as often during that time. I WILL for sure get in my Monday Munchies recipe, and Tuesday Tips, but am going to keep the posts to a minimum, because my poor house is falling apart around me! MUST..SPRING...CLEAN...OR...ELSE! I gotta kick my butt in gear for this summer, if I am to start the tedious tasks of clearing forest, and digging in to get our foundation started. (and I can't leave my trailer in a mess while I am gone all day mucking about in the dirt!! So, please forgive me all you faithful followers who read my many many posts, I PROMISE I will be back soon when my house is in order!

Okay. So Harri is 3. This must have been MY fault. He was taking a shower. The open cat box is outside of said shower. He is in there with LOTS of cups playing with water. I hear Griff saying that she sees Harri pouring said cups of water into said cat box....by the time I got to him, there was a gallon of water in the thing! what is most upsetting, is that I had JUST changed the litter, and that stuff isn't particularly cheap. Ok, so it could have been worse, he could have been making sandcastles, but STILL. This is pathetic. sigh...... whats next?

AHHH- gotta go, someone is making dinner with crackers and water in my living room!

Munchie Monday- SUPER Soft And Delicious Potato bread

This bread dough can be used for just about ANYTHING, cinnamon rolls, holiday breads, rolls and everything in between. One thing's for sure, there wont be any left for a photo!

SUPER Soft And Delicious Potato Bread (otherwise known as THE BEST BREAD ON EARTH!)

1 T yeast
1 1/2 C lukewarm potato water (plain water works too, but potato is BEST!)
1/2 cup honey
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup butter (or oil- olive, almond, walnut, or ANY nut oil is great too!)
1 cup lukewarm mashed potatoes
5 cups unbleached naturally white flour (whole wheat is fine but gives bread a denser texture)
1/2 cup dry milk powder
1/2 cup wheat germ (optional, but worth it!)
1/2 cup ground flax (optional, but worth it!)

Directions:

Dissolve yeast in water. Add honey, salt, eggs, butter, potatoes, and any optional ingredients. Stir in flour to make a pliable dough. Knead 10 minutes or so, it should be smooth and rubbery texture -but silky soft as well ( I suggest kneading until your hands fall off, IT'S WORTH IT!). Let rise until doubled in a warm place, or cover and let rise in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Form dough into 2 loaves and put into 2 greased bread pans. Bake rolls at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. Recipe can be halved or doubled.

No, seriously, I turn 26 and all of a sudden I start getting ads for MORE magazine, which is in fact a magazine for 40 and up......WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! :.....(

WHAT. THE. HECK.
I never thought I was that old, never thought I LOOKED that old, but why oh why am I getting subscription offers for a 40 and up magazine???

I know I know, I have nothing to worry about, but seriously, not a funny joke to be playing on my already FRAYING MIND! LOL :)

Definitely a mind blower.

(NOT that I think that 40 is really THAT old, because I don't. but getting offered something that I wont be eligible for for another 15 years is a little EXCESSIVELY early, don't you think??)

I made a little paper man today , it was fairly easy and as I was making him it reminded me of how much FUN and SATISFYING cutting paper is! I haven't had this much fun since kindergarten! I bought a makeup and coin purse bag set from The Dainty Squid on Etsy and she did this custom order for me! I fell in LOVE with the fabric on one of her coin purses, so I had her make me a makeup bag to match! The fabric has a cartoon called "The Dysfunctional family" by michael miller. here is what they say:

mother- "that's it! Ive had enough whining!! Brian, pull over!! She's spending the rest of the trip in the TRUNK!
